There is a strange and seemingly impossible to define boundary between when LLMs like ChatGPT are useful and when they are useless. Where they are useless is easy to find: […]
Optimization of metasurfaces for lasing with symmetry constraints on the modes
I am really proud of my latest article, which has just been published in Physical Review B. It outlines a novel method to quantify numerically the symmetry of the eigenmodes returned by a simulation, which allowed me to optimise for mode symmetry in a genetic algorithm that designs metasurfaces.
Book Chapter: Nonlinear metasurfaces for generating quantum photon-pair states
I am honoured to be the lead author of a chapter in the book “Fundamentals and Applications of Nonlinear Nanophotonics.” The chapter describes the work done by myself and Andrea Mazzanti on generating entangled photon-pairs with metasurfaces.
COMSOLd: a daemon for controlling COMSOL jobs
COMSOLd is a server I have written in MATLAB for the scheduling and processing of COMSOL jobs. It allows you to control COMSOL jobs from MATLAB and it automatically converts the COMSOL output into MATLAB data structures for ease of processing. Multiple instances of COMSOLd can be run at once without conflicts arising between them. We are using it to schedule jobs from multiple users.
