LLMs: Extraordinarily useful and then utterly useless

There is a strange and seemingly impossible to define boundary between when LLMs like ChatGPT are useful and when they are useless. Where they are useless is easy to find: […]

Optimization of metasurfaces for lasing with symmetry constraints on the modes

Optimization of metasurfaces for lasing with symmetry constraints on the modes

I am really proud of my latest article, which has just been published in Physical Review B.  It outlines a novel method to quantify numerically the symmetry of the eigenmodes returned by a simulation, which allowed me to optimise for mode symmetry in a genetic algorithm that designs metasurfaces.

Book Chapter: Nonlinear metasurfaces for generating quantum photon-pair states

I am honoured to be the lead author of a chapter in the book “Fundamentals and Applications of Nonlinear Nanophotonics.” The chapter describes the work done by myself and Andrea Mazzanti on generating entangled photon-pairs with metasurfaces.
